Abstract

This article presents the Encyclopedia of Music and Musicology in Tunisia project, an initiative led by Professor Samir Becha and based on extensive international scientific collaboration. Inspired by the work of Jean-Jacques Nattiez, this work aims to define the theoretical and methodological foundations of the discipline by studying the music of diverse civilizations, from Antiquity to the present day. The project brings together Tunisian and international musicologists to explore varied themes such as semiotics, genre analysis (like the maqam), and epistemological approaches. The encyclopedia is structured around three main axes: music in relation to the humanities, the study of musical instruments (organology), and methods of analysis. In addition to its scientific rigor, this work aims to be a record of musical heritage and a lasting tool for reflection for future generations.
